Installation

Before Starting:
The assembly drawings in this installation guide are for the purpose of illustration and may not be applicable to all building applications. RSSP reserves the right to modify, without notice, any drawings or related information. RSSP, Inc. is not responsible for roof performance if not installed as outlined by the drawings in the installation guide. Any questions or discrepancies in the drawings should be brought to the attention of RSSP. Roof project compliance with local governing building codes and is the responsibility of the installer. RSSP recommends that applicable OSHA and other safety requirements be reviewed and implemented by the installer before beginning the roof installation. Panel oil canning described as waviness found in the wide flat area of the panel is not a cause for rejection and is a common characteristic of light gauge metal panels, and is often the result of actual roof and environmental conditions beyond the control of RSSP. For the best results a comprehensive installation plan is recommended as suggested in the outline below.

Installation Planning:

•  Compare materials received with the shipping manifest

•  Review Installation drawings

•  Select and schedule required tools and equipment

•  Prepare safety supplies and first aid kit

•  Secure permits (if required)

•  Determine method of trash removal

•  Outline installation sequence (see example)

•  Determine crew size and supervision

•  Coordinate installation activities with other related trades

•  Schedule daily activities and set completion date goal

•  Pre installation meeting with crew and supervision

Unloading Materials:
Job site unloading of the materials ordered from RSSP is the responsibility of the installer. All bundles of delivered materials must be checked for visible damage and signed off by the installer on the delivery receipt as damaged (damage must be described) or free of damage. If damage occurs RSSP must be notified at the time of delivery and before releasing the truck driver by calling 1-877-211-6777. Hidden damage and shortages must be reported within 48 hours after delivery by calling 1-877-211-6777 and faxing to 1-574-858-2193. RSSP allows a maximum of 2 hours for unloading.

Unloading instructions are noted on each bundle. The instruction information includes bundle weight, recommended lifting point or points. Bundles are typically unloaded using forklifts or cranes with spreader bars. If no equipment is available the bundles can be opened and the panels and parts unloaded by hand. However, if hand unloading is used keep in mind the maximum of 2 hours for truck unloading. After 2 hours $100 per hour will charged.

Hand unloading and carrying of panels should be done by a minimum of 2 people spaced less than 10' apart. Panels should be carried in a vertical orientation by grasping the female panel rib and letting the width of the panel hang perpendicular with the ground. Do not carry panels with the width of the panel parallel with the ground or permanent buckling of the panel may occur.

Storing Materials:
Panels, trims, and accessories need to remain dry until installed. When materials are stored on the jobsite they should be elevated high enough off of the ground and located in high areas so they don't stand in water after a heavy rain. The materials should be covered with water proof material that will prevent moisture from entering the bundles and accommodate air circulation. The cover should also protect the panels from extreme heat and direct sunlight. Extreme heat and direct sunlight can cause the panel and trim protective film to bond tighter to the painted surface making it difficult to remove the film. Storing panels on the roof prior to installation is not recommended. Do not store bundles in a corrosive environment.

Deck Roof Substrate:
A minimum of 30# felt paper or equal is recommended for use over a plywood substrate and should be installed in compliance with the manufactures requirements. A self adhering rubber based membrane material should be used where potential damning may occur.

Field Cutting:
Panels should be cut using manual snips or mechanical nibblers. It is recommended that all cutting be done on the ground for safety reasons and to prevent the damage of installed panels and trims. Do not cut panels or trims over new metal surfaces. The use of a circular saw for cutting panels and trim is not recommended.

Paint Repair:
When small surface scratches occur in the paint they may be repaired using only the manufactures recommended touch-up paint. If a scratch cuts through both the painted surface and metallic substrate into the base metal the scratch should be cut out and the part cut down for use in another area of the roof or discarded. Touch-up paint is recommended for use on small (12” or less) narrow (1/32”) scratches that are in the paint surface only. Contact RSSP for ordering touch-up paint and any questions regarding use and application.

Protective Film Removal:

1. Remove protective film from panels and trim parts before assembly installation.
2. Do not use film as a walking surface because debris in shoes may cut through the film and scratch the pain.
3. Do not expose panels and trim parts with protective film to direct sunlight. Exposed panels could cause film to bond tighter to the panels making it difficult to remove.
4. If panels are scratched se paint repair instructions in general information section.

Hemming Tool Use:
Illustration is typical for Panel Numbers: RS 1000, RS 2000, RS 3000, RS 4000, RS 5000 and RS 6000. RS 4000 shown below.

1. Factory notched panels must be hemmed on the ground before placement on the roof.
2. Slide hemming tool onto the panel tab up tight against the panel ribs and hold tight while bending tool down and rotating as far as you can without making an impression on the backside of the panel, then pull tool off.
3. See Field Cutting Hem drawing.

Hemming Valley Panels:

1. The hem notch for valley hems should be spaced equal to or less than the hem tool length to accommodate bending.
2. See Field Cutting Panel Hem drawing.

Field Cutting Panel Hem:

1. Dashed lines indicate cutting lines for shaded cutout area.
2. See Hemming Tool Use drawing.
3. See Hemming Valley Panels drawing.
4. Dashed and dotted lines indicate the hem bend line.
5. When the Hem Bend Line exceeds the length of the hem tool cut a 1/2" wide Hem notch as shown. Do not cut into bend line. Hold cut off of bend line about 1/16th".

Trim Assembly Locator:

1. Remove protective film from parts before assembly installation.
2. Moisture barrier supplied by others should be installed according to the barrier manufacturer's instructions.
3. Refer to project specifications and or local codes for application of self adhered ice and water barriers.
